The Benefits of Relaxed Wedding Photography

How Can I Get Relaxed Wedding Photos?

If you're anything like most couples, you’ve probably typed “relaxed wedding photography” into Google, hoping to find someone who gets it. You want beautiful, natural wedding photos the kind that show real smiles, belly laughs, hugs, tears, and all those unplanned little moments that make your day uniquely yours.

You’re not looking for awkward poses or endless photo sessions that drag you away from the fun. You want to feel like you in your photos (not like you're stuck in a fashion shoot).

That’s where relaxed wedding photography comes in and it’s exactly what I love to do.

What Is Relaxed Wedding Photography?

Relaxed wedding photography is all about capturing your day as it actually unfolds- the emotions, the atmosphere, the tiny glances, the spontaneous laughter. It’s less about staged shots and more about storytelling- the real, raw, joyful story of your wedding day.

You won't be told to “smile at the camera” a hundred times. You won’t spend hours lining up for stiff group photos. Instead, you get to live in the moment while I blend in like a guest with a camera, capturing everything from the quiet morning nerves to the wild dancefloor energy at night.

That’s the beauty of relaxed wedding photography: it gives you permission to just be

Why Relaxed Photos Feel More Like You

Ever looked at a wedding photo and thought, “Wow, they look so comfortable, like they’re not even thinking about the camera”? That’s the goal. And here’s the thing: when you feel comfortable, your photos naturally reflect you

The benefits?

  • You look like yourself: No stiff poses or weird expressions, just your natural smile, your quirks, your connection as a couple.

  • Real emotion is captured: The kind of stuff you’ll feel again when you look back. Not just how it looked, but how it felt

  • You get to enjoy your day: You're not whisked away for hours. You’re in the moment, with your people, living it up.

Tips for Getting Relaxed Wedding Photos

Okay, so how do you actually get relaxed photos on the day? Here are a few things I recommend to every couple I work with:

1. Choose a Photographer You Vibe With

This is the big one. You’re inviting a photographer into one of the most personal days of your life, so you’ve got to feel comfortable around them. If we’re a good fit, you’ll barely notice me snapping away in the background. Instead of feeling like a stranger’s tagging along, it’ll feel like a mate with a camera, which makes everything so much easier.

So before you book, have a proper chat. Let’s talk about your plans, your worries, and what kind of vibe you’re going for. It’s all part of the process.

2. Do What Feels Right for You

Want to ditch tradition and walk down the aisle together? Go for it. Prefer a low-key pub reception over a big fancy venue? Amazing. When you plan a day that feels true to who you are as a couple, your comfort and joy will naturally shine through in your photos.

Relaxed wedding photography works best when the day feels relaxed. No pressure to tick boxes, just doing things your way.

3. Forget the Camera Is There

This one’s easier said than done- especially if you’re not usually in front of a lens. But the best photos happen when you’re genuinely in the moment. Laughing with your mates, hugging your gran, sneaking a quick kiss during dinner- those are the gold.

I’ll guide you gently if we need to do some couple portraits, but even then, it’s all very natural. No weird hand positions or staged smiles, just the two of you, being you.

4. Trust the Process

You’ve booked a photographer you trust (hopefully me!), so now it’s time to let go and enjoy your day. Trust that I’ve got it covered- the big moments, the little ones, and everything in between. You don’t need to worry about where to stand or what to do. Just be there, and I’ll handle the rest.

Real Moments > Perfect Poses

I’ll be honest, the moments that stick with me after a wedding aren’t the perfectly posed couple shots. They’re the ones where the groom sees his partner for the first time and his whole face changes. Or when the bridesmaids are laughing so hard they’ve got mascara tears. Or the flower girl having a meltdown halfway down the aisle.

Those are the moments that tell your story.

Sure, we’ll get some beautiful portraits too. But even those are chilled, quick, and in locations that feel relaxed- like a walk through the woods near your venue or a quiet moment together during golden hour.

No pressure. No awkwardness. Just genuine connection.

Final Thoughts: Keep It Real

At the end of the day, your wedding is about celebrating your love, surrounded by the people who matter most. You don’t need to turn it into a production. You don’t need to perform. You just need to be yourselves and let the moments unfold naturally.

That’s what I’m here for. To quietly document the magic, the madness, the beauty, and the chaos, all without getting in the way.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, let’s chat. I’d love to hear about your plans and help you feel 100% comfortable with how your story is told.
