The Belsfield Hotel Wedding
Photography - Emma and Nick

I know what you’re thinking, and no, I’ve not mixed up my blog titles. Emma and Nick really did get married in the Lake District, not Italy! What an amazing day we had though, honestly I kept having to remind myself I was at Lake Windermere and not Lake Garda!

The Belsfield Hotel is ultra swanky (it’s a Laura Ashley hotel so is pretty darn stylish both inside and outside), and has the most incredible views overlooking Windermere and the mountains beyond. I am a huge fan of the Lake District and when Emma and Nick told me about their plans I was so excited to be a part of it.

I’ve known these two for ages. We first met when Emma was pregnant and they wanted some photos taken to announce their impending parenthood to their family and friends. I took some family photos once their little one arrived and then did their pre-wedding shoot after Nick had popped the question. He asked Emma to marry him in front of the shark tank at Blue Planet Aquarium. Oh, and fun fact, guess who was working at Blue Planet the day they got engaged. Yep, little old me! Basically I’m part of the family now!

Wedding Photography at The
Belsfield, Windermere

It was properly misty when I arrived at The Belsfield that morning. The grounds looked so atmospheric and you could hardly see Windermere. It made for some very cool photos.

As the morning went on the mist disappeared and we were left with the most beautiful crisp December day. The sky was blue and the sun was shining, perfect! Inside The Belsfield a smiling Emma made her way down the aisle on the arm of her very proud dad. Nick’s face lit up when he saw his bride. She looked incredible.

Lake District Weddings

There’s something super special about weddings in the Lake District. I’ve shot there loads over the years and there are just so many amazing venues - some nestled in the mountains whilst others sit on the shores of a lake. I often get asked which is my favourite wedding venue and, to be totally honest, I couldn’t pick one! I’ve got to say though, for sheer proximity to a lake - and not just any old lake, Lake Windermere! - the Belsfield is hard to beat!

After they’d spent some time celebrating with their loved ones it was time for the three of us to sneak away and get some pictures of Emma and Nick looking all loved up. The jetty was the obvious place to start and wow! Words just don’t do these couple portraits justice. Windermere was so still and calm, the sky was the most incredible blue and Emma and Nick were looking amazing. All in all, my job was incredibly easy. I just had to click the shutter and bam! Wedding portrait awesomeness!

Evening Wedding Receptions at Belsfield Hotel

Back up at The Belsfield it was time for speeches and Tequila, the party was getting started and Emma and Nick entered the room to massive cheers and whoops. The speeches were hilarious and included some large childhood photos of Emma, more Tequila shots and a lot of napkin waving. As if that wasn’t enough entertainment for everyone the speeches were followed by fireworks, a raucous game of Mr and Mrs and loads of dancing. I tell you what, Emma and Nick know how to throw a party!

As you can probably tell, it was so hard to narrow down the photos for this blog post but I finally managed it. Here are my highlights of Emma and Nick’s fab, Christmassy Belsfield Hotel wedding.
