5 things you should know if you're getting married at Bashall Barn
My top tips for a Bashall Barn Wedding
I’m going to take a wild guess here and say you’ve probably got engaged recently, you’re planning your big day and you’ve decided to get married at Bashall Barn, a stunning farm wedding venue based in Lancashire. First of all let me just say - Congratulations on your engagement!
I spend a lot of my time photographing loved-up couples like yourselves, on their wedding day! Living the absolutely dream. But i’m also incredibly lucky in that, whilst being a full time wedding photographer, I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of a handful of weddings that have taken place at the incredible Bashall Barn venue. It made me think, how can I give something back? I want to help engaged couples and let them know all the best bits about a Bashall Barn wedding. This is why I’ve put together a neat & helpful blog all about my top 5 tips on getting married at Bashall Barn. The deposits have been paid, the date set and now it’s time to put your heads together and actually plan a wedding.
The tricky part is actually knowing how you can get the most of our wedding day, right?! Whilst weddings are absolutely amazing, they can often pass in the blink of an eye, all that hard-work and planning goes into one day, and the only thing you have to remember it by is your photographs.
Have a little read below, I truly hope it helps plan the perfect wedding day at Bashall Barn.
Visit the cow-shed at Bashall Barn
Yeah, you heard me right. Whilst being situated on a working farm, Bashall Barn is certainly unique, and is home to a large cattle shed (and maybe an goat or two!). As a wedding photographer, i’m constantly on the lookout for quirky backdrops, and the cow-shed definitely fits the bill! I think thats why I love this wedding venue so much, because it offers something totally ‘out there’ and different.
Honestly, how many people can say that they got a photo with some cows on their wedding day? If you’re getting married at Bashall Barn then a visit to the cow shed is obligatory. Whilst planning your day, your running order of the day might have some breaks in them, this is the perfect opportunity to get out and explore this beautiful location!
How many guests?
Family politics. Work colleagues. Day guests & Night-time only guests. Do I HAVE to invite this person? Trust me, I’ve been there!
It can be quite the challenge trying to figure out who to invite to your wedding. BUT, again this is another reason why I love Bashall Barn so much. This gorgeous Lancashire wedding venue can accommodate weddings of all sizes, quite literally! If you’re really struggling with who to invite to your wedding then this venue has all bases covered.
They pride themselves on being able to cater for just 50 guests on your wedding day, or why not go all out and have up to 130 seated guests during the wedding breakfast?! If that still doesn’t cater to your need, Bashall Barn offers a capacity for up to 250 wedding guests in the evening! This means that no one will be left out on the invite list. You can get wed with your nearest and dearest, and then have a boogie all night on the dance floor with all your mates!
Venue Styling at Bashall Barn
If you’re looking to get married at Bashall Barn then you’re probably doing it for that rustic vibe and beautiful surrounding landscapes. Speaking of the views, Bashall’s ceremony room is by far the most unique that I have ever seen. It provides the perfect backdrop to your special day. An incredible spacious room with large floor to ceiling height windows, which overlooks the breathtaking views or Ribble Valley and fells below, rustic wooden panelling and did I already mention how nice the views are?! Your nearest and dearest can join you on the (covered) terrace outside as you say the ‘I do’s’ and all the important bits of your wedding day.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for attention to detail. I love those quirky centre pieces, huge florals and just an all-round rustic vibe. During my last visit to Bashall Barn, I was so excited to be working with the fabulous ladies from Walls In Bloom. She brought along an absolutely stunning flower arch, ladened with a vintage pink flower garland and hanging tea lights! Safe to say - I was a little bit obsessed. It was the perfect finishing touch to the day. Holly (founder of Walls in Bloom), is based in Ribble Valley, covering the whole of Lancashire, Preston and the Fylde Coast.
Hint - So if you’re looking for a venue stylist then you know where to go!
The Weather
You should know by now that the English weather is totally unpredictable, and sadly, not even the bride-to-be can control the weather on her wedding day! Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally hoping for blue skies and fluffy white clouds on your wedding day, but more often than not, it’s probably going to rain, fog or even snow.
Just embrace the weather. Seriously. The bad weather can actually enhance your wedding photographs - they make for the totally silly, fun and special moments that you’ll never forget.
You only get married once and you HAVE to make the most of it! I’ve had a really eclectic mix of couples - some LOVE to brave the weather and get their hair wet, wellies in tow and holding up their dress. Whilst others mark a dart for the closest brolly, this totally works for your photos too!

Bridal Suite, Accommodation and more!
At the time of writing this (mid 2019), Bashall Barn have just released the most exciting news! They have expanded their already brilliant wedding venue, and made it even better (I didn’t even think it was possible!). They have now just added some luxurious bridal suites on site. It comes with most outrageous bath tub I have ever seen (in the best way possible of course), selfie mirrors, a designated getting ready area, and most important of all - a place to actually hang your dress! Again, this venue has gone above and beyond to make sure your special day is just that, special! The bridal suites are fitted with black leather sofas, four poster beds, TVs, night lights (no more peeing in the dark!) and much more.
Team Bashall are currently in the developing process of making a fully outdoor ceremony area too. Last time I was there they were already putting the foundations in. Exciting times ahead for this truly stunning Lancashire wedding venue!
