An Intimate Winter Wedding in Manchester City Centre | Lucy & Aaron

Winter Wedding Photography in Manchester City Centre

Let me just start of by saying how incredibly lucky we were with the weather, for Lucy and Aaron’s wedding day in Manchester City Centre. I mean, even on a good day Manchester’s typical climate is ALWAYS rainy and cold. Let alone having a winter wedding in the city centre! Although, I have to admit, the weather we were greeted with was absolutely gorgeous! It was probably the best light I had ever photographed in, which meant we were able to get out for some lush couples portraits of the newlyweds! I still can’t quite believe that the band BOYZONE crashed their wedding day (Scroll down to see what I mean!).

When I first met Lucy it was clear to see the reason why they had chose to have their wedding in the heart of the city centre. They were definitely city folk! They’d lived in London for the majority of their time together and Aaron currently lives in New York, with plans for both of them to move out there after the wedding. So when I saw the bright red post boxes right next to Manchester Town Hall, I just knew I had to grab a photo or two of them in front of it!

Wedding Preparations

The morning of the wedding came around in no time after our initial meeting. Lucy spent the morning getting ready at Princess Street Hotel round the corner from the Town Hall. The wonderful bride to be wasn’t too bothered about having a big bridal party, so she decided to spend the morning with two of the closest people in her life - her bridesmaid and one of her closest friends. What an ace morning it was, I don’t think Lucy stopped laughing the whole time! Exactly how the morning of a wedding should be - lots of laughs, big hugs and surrounded by people you love.

Wedding Ceremony at Manchester Town Hall

This couple had it all set out - they wanted a city centre wedding through and through, so what better place to get married than in Manchester Town Hall. With its stunning architecture and rustic vibes, the town hall is perhaps the most iconic building that this city has to offer! You see, Aaron is not just a city person, he’s also a total foodie at heart! So not only was Manchester the perfect place to have their wedding, but they took a big leap by having their wedding reception at the fabulous Yang Sing Restaurant in Chinatown, Manchester.

Boyzone & Magic FM crashed the wedding

Yep, so this actually happened. Fancy having Ronan Keating from Boyzone and Magic FM radio crash your wedding day?! Well this was certainly an unexpected occurrence for Lucy & Aaron! As I’m sure you’re more than aware by now, the city was their backdrop to this couples little love story! We were walking through Albert square, on our way to Chinatown when Magic FM radio were doing a live pop-up segment on the square. The crowds were huge, all lined up to see Boyzone’s very own Ronan Keating, when he spotted Lucy’s gorgeous wedding dress! The couple got backstage passes to their live show later that night, as well as being live on air! You’ll have to see the photo evidence below to see her reaction!

Party time!

After the Chinese banquet had been served, ties undone and many G&T’s had been sipped, it was party time! And what a party it was. After a quick game of ‘Mr & Mrs’ it was time for their first dance, and then the dancefloor exploded! I don’t think any of their guests stopped dancing all night, which basically made my job an absolute breeze! I love getting in close, like one of your guests, and capturing the action of the dancefloor exactly as it happens!
